Humanoid robots, animals and advanced technologies

There are many technologies that, today, can be exploited for those activities related to teaching and inclusion.

For some time we have begun to study how to exploit robots, of various types, to increase interest and involvement in all those activities related to learning and communication.

With Felicitous, from today, you can also take advantage of these new technologies: both those from the elementary functions for learning movements to the most advanced ones that also implement an exchange of dialogues.

The use of robots, also associated with AAC, today has become a reality based on constantly evolving studies and, all these technologies, constantly evolving to achieve an ever better result.

Often we are led to think that the use of a robot is something related to science fiction alone, an imagination and fantasy that are not very useful. It’s not like that!

Many countries, for some time, have been exploiting all these technologies: in their most varied versions from humanoid robots to those with the appearance of animals or so-called intelligent objects.

Exploiting their abilities, their strength to generate interest and involvement, today are a real reality and many studies have shown that, with a robot, you can get better results.

From 2010 to 2019 the literature on “robotic applications in the field of disability” has seen an important increase, also focusing on the usefulness of robot technologies to promote and stimulate skills in Autism Spectrum Syndrome (ASD). These studies have shown that these technological innovations are able to open a real communication channel, in the person who interacts with them, and allow to focus attention on what are the social behaviors, but also didactic, to follow.

The integration and the ability to interface the robots to our Felicitous and DidaBoard are not limited to the sole possibility of managing emitted sensory information; we managed to use our software to modulate them all coming to expand them and focus them in what are the real sensory characteristics of the person.

We do not limit ourselves to stating that with software and other robot technologies it is possible to activate or deactivate lights, sounds and the usual few other activities… taking advantage of robots it will be possible to create many types of activities.

Many studies have shown that robots can also be used for, for example:

  • a better social relationship, where the child has shown himself more interested in forging a first relationship with his partner and robotic mediator and, subsequently learning the basics of that communication, with the other people around him;
  • better motor communication by imitation, where the person first concentrated to learn the movements carried out by the robot and then replicated them by imitation in his daily life and then for his purposes of communication with the outside world;
  • a greater propensity towards the maintenance of shared attention, therefore the ability to keep alive the interest in what is the same object / stimulus also observed by several people;

But there are many other focuses in which the literature has shown that, through the use of robots, better results can be achieved: socially adequate dialogues, imitations and interaction games, social but also emotional understanding, collaborative behaviors represent only some portions of what can be achieved by exploiting a robot.

We have chosen to dedicate our time and effort also in this aspect of communication.

We believe it is important to be able to take advantage of every possible and best technology available today to have an environment to communicate at 360 ° and full of news.
